Neuroscience-focused, biopharmaceutical major, NBIX closed at 147.28, shedding 0.17%. One of the key reasons for the downtrend is attributed to the disappointing results of the Phase 3 Study of Valbenazine in Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy. The study found that valbenazine did not work as hoped, as it failed to improve involuntary movements (chorea) in children and adults with dyskinetic cerebral palsy, even though the drug was safe and well-tolerated.
Commenting on the study, Sanjay Keswani, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Neurocrine Biosciences, stated, “These results are disappointing, as there are no approved treatments for people living with dyskinetic cerebral palsy.” He further added, “We are deeply grateful to the patients and their families, as well as the investigators and site staff, whose commitment, dedication, and participation made this clinical trial possible.”
The study is the largest controlled clinical trial ever done in dyskinetic cerebral palsy. The study tested 14 weeks of valbenazine versus a placebo in children and adults with involuntary movements. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a nonprogressive neurodevelopmental disorder that affects three per 1,000 children in the United States.
