Working Together
A Few Tiny Suggestions
I often get asked: “what is Eudaimonia & Co?” It’s part consultancy, part lab, and part thinktank. Here are a few tiny suggestions for ways that we can work together, based on ways we often work with organizations. They’re just starting points — you are most welcome to suggest your own.
— Eudaimonics 101. A talk, probably between 30 and 60 minutes, we’ll go into the basics of eudaimonia, eudaimonics versus economics, and then the fundamentals and design principles.
— Eudaimonics 201. A workshop, longer and more interactive, with questions, answers, and exercises, we’ll get into more depth and detail about technical, historical, philosophical, and practical aspects of eudaimonia. Think of this as immersion in a new paradigm.
— Eudaimonics 301. You’ll grade yourself on your relative eudaimonics — the five ends, and perhaps, the design principles. So you’ll begin to see: are you a high-Omega organization? Low-Theta? How high is your Lambda? This is a collaborative project that takes between three and six months, probably. Here, you’re going beyond simple economics — what’s your profitability, balance sheet, income, and so on — and beginning the journey of learning about and mastering the art of eudaimonia.
— Eudaimonics 401. Every organization has a vision and set of values, but most don’t say much, if anything, about eudaimonics — how, why, where, and in which specific ways an organization hopes to really create value, wealth, and well-being in the world. Together, we’ll work on visions and values that are eudaimonic. And because those are the guiding principles of organizations, where cultures reside and goals are set, organizations begin to work and cohere, think and act, see and be, in better ways. Anyone that’s worked on a vision knows it’s a long and challenging exercise — so these are usually long term, highly involved projects with many participants.
— Eudaimonics 501. We’ll build your eudaimonics together: go out and calculate your Omega, Theta, and Lambda in absolute, numerical, not just relative, qualititative, terms. Very few organizations in the world have made this leap — this is the cutting edge, where leadership really begins today. These are long and involved projects, requiring people and time, because we’re collecting often very large amounts of data and synthesizing them mathematically. At the end, the payoff is significant: we’ll be able to say with precision this is how much value, wealth, and well-being we are really creating, and use that to guide decisions, shape strategies, and set and correct missions.
Like I said — these are just starting points, suggestions. Doing something new and beautiful and interesting in the world always means doing things differently. So we’re probably going to work together in newer and more interesting ways than yesterday, too — and for that reason, please feel free to suggest your own way.
And, of course, you are most welcome to contact me directly anytime if you want to discuss any of the above, to learn more, or just to chat.
