Berenberg reduced the 12-month price target for Xaar PLC (LON: XAR) to GBP 1.40 from GBP 1.60. The bank kept the ‘Buy’ rating, implying 33.97% upside potential. Xaar plc (XAR.L) was trading at 104.50, 2.50 points or 2.45% up at the time of writing the article.
Xaar Downgraded as Ford’s EV Strategy Shift Raises Supply-Chain Risks
The price target cut followed Ford’s announcement of a major shift in its electric vehicle strategy, taking approximately $19.5 billion in EV-related charges as it restructures parts of its business. The auto-maker announced the strategy shift early in December.
The write-downs reflect weaker-than-expected demand for fully electric vehicles and a decision to scale back or cancel several EV programs, while reallocating capital toward hybrids, extended-range EVs, and its core truck and commercial vehicle segments.
Commenting on the strategy shift, CEO Jim Farley said.
“The operating reality has changed, and we are redeploying capital into higher-return growth opportunities: Ford Pro, our market-leading trucks and vans, hybrids, and high-margin opportunities like our new battery energy storage business.”
The move signals a broader industry slowdown in near-term EV investment and has led analysts to lower assumptions for battery coating activity, a market where Xaar’s printhead technology is used.
Xaar shares were up 43.66% year-to-date as of December 31, 2025. The shares, which trade on the London Stock Exchange, have moved in a 52-week range of 57.60p to 148.00p.
Analyst forecasts currently show a price target of GBX 160. The company has a market cap of £80.60 million as of December 31, 2025. The latest quarterly earnings report, published early this year, on March 25, posted earnings per share of $0.70 for the period. The company continues to face profitability pressures, with a negative trailing twelve-month return on equity of 4.85% and a net margin of –5.32%. Xaar’s revenue is primarily driven by industrial and commercial inkjet printhead sales, growing participation in functional coating applications tied to EV battery manufacturing, and emerging additive manufacturing opportunities.
