Chainlink Launches 24/5 On-Chain U.S. Stock Data for DeFi

Chainlink (LINK) is pushing deeper into traditional finance, announcing a major expansion that brings the U.S. stock market on-chain through new 24/5 equities data streams designed specifically for decentralized finance (DeFi).

The move targets U.S. equities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), an addressable market estimated at nearly $80 trillion, and marks one of the most ambitious attempts yet to bridge real-world financial markets with blockchain-based infrastructure.

At the core of the launch is Chainlink’s new pull-based Data Streams model, which delivers sub-second latency pricing for major U.S. stocks and ETFs across more than 40 blockchains, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Base. Unlike legacy oracle models that often provided a single daily price update, the new system delivers continuous, high-fidelity market data during pre-market, regular, post-market, and overnight sessions, addressing long-standing blind spots in DeFi.

Solving DeFi’s “Overnight Risk” Problem

DeFi markets operate 24/7, but U.S. equities trade in fragmented sessions. This structural mismatch has historically exposed DeFi protocols to liquidation risk and pricing errors during overnight and after-hours periods, when crypto markets remain active, but traditional stock markets are closed. Chainlink’s new 24/5 equities streams aim to close that gap by delivering real-time bid-ask spreads, volume, market status flags, and staleness indicators, data points typically available only through institutional terminals.

The initiative is about enabling “institutional-grade DeFi,” where on-chain applications can safely support products tied to real-world assets (RWA) such as stocks, gold, and silver. RWA tokenization has emerged as a central theme for 2026, as both crypto-native firms and traditional financial institutions explore blockchain-based settlement and trading.

Early Adoption Across DeFi Platforms

Several trading platforms have already integrated the new data streams, including Lighter, BitMEX, and ApeX, which are launching equity perpetual contracts and other synthetic stock products. These instruments allow users to gain exposure to U.S. equities without holding the underlying shares, relying instead on accurate and continuous pricing feeds to manage leverage, margin calls, and liquidations.

Commenting on the development, Stephan Lutz, CEO of BitMEX, said, “For derivatives markets, security and data integrity matter more than anything. Chainlink’s 24/5 U.S. Equities Streams are a critical component of our professional-grade 24/7 equity derivatives infrastructure, providing the verifiable pricing context needed to operate beyond standard market hours.”

For DeFi developers, the availability of granular data, beyond simple mid-prices, opens the door to more sophisticated financial products. These include structured products, prediction markets, and synthetic ETFs that depend on precise bid-ask spreads and volume data to function safely during volatile market conditions.

Implications for U.S. Markets and Investors

While the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and other traditional venues still operate on fixed trading hours, momentum is building toward extended or even continuous trading. Chainlink’s 24/5 equities streams position DeFi as an early beneficiary of that shift, enabling on-chain markets to function seamlessly even when Wall Street is closed.

For U.S. investors, the implications are significant. DeFi applications can now support trading and risk management for U.S. stock-linked products at unconventional hours such as 3:00 a.m. EST with price accuracy comparable to institutional data feeds. This helps eliminate the “weekend risk” and “overnight gap” that have historically plagued crypto-based equity derivatives.

A Strategic Step for On-Chain Finance

Chainlink’s equities expansion builds on its broader role as a dominant oracle network, having secured more than $27 trillion in transaction value to date. By extending its data standard to U.S. stocks and ETFs, Chainlink is positioning itself as foundational infrastructure for the convergence of traditional finance and DeFi.

As real-world assets continue moving on-chain, the launch of Chainlink 24/5 Equities underscores a broader shift: DeFi is no longer limited to crypto-native assets, but is increasingly becoming a parallel financial system capable of supporting global markets in real time.
