Amazon, the prominent American multinational technology company and the world’s largest online retailer, is all set to invest hefty amounts of money in its first data center campuses in Louisiana. According to the latest reports, American giants are on the verge of pouring $12 billion into strengthening local infrastructure and funding community programs. Amazon claims that its latest initiative will create 540 full-time data center jobs and support 1,710 additional positions.
On February 23, 2026, Amazon announced its plans to invest $12 billion in northwest Louisiana to develop a state-of-the-art data center campus to support advanced cloud computing technologies. The development plan follows a coordinated multi-site investment model across Caddo and Bossier Parishes, aiming to support and enhance the regional economic activity. The announcement from Amazon came as part of a partnership with the North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP). The latest reports confirm that Amazon is partnering with STACK Infrastructure, the developer and owner of the campuses, to lead the construction and development of the data center facilities.
Matt VanderZanden, CEO of STACK Infrastructure Americas, said that the project demonstrated STACK’s ability to execute multi-site data center developments in close coordination with utilities, clients, and local partners. He added that the company was excited to make the significant investment in northwest Louisiana and was looking forward to being a strong community partner while creating long-term, positive impacts in its new home in the Pelican State.
According to Amazon’s official statement, the planned investment is expected to create 540 full-time jobs at its data centers and support an additional 1,710 full-time equivalent positions across the broader community. It added that these opportunities would include roles such as electricians, HVAC technicians, project engineers, network specialists, operations managers, and security specialists, among others. Amazon intends to implement the initiative through job creation with fair pay and benefits, responsible operation of fulfillment and data centers, and sustained community support. Till now, they claim to have created over one million jobs, rolled out 700+ carbon-free energy projects, and invested over $3.6 billion in housing initiatives.
To completely fund the infrastructure needed to power their operations, Amazon has worked with the local utility, Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), and it will pay 100% of the costs associated with the new data center campus in Louisiana. Apart from covering the whole costs, the U.S tech tycoons have also invested in solar energy projects in the region, introducing up to 200 MW of new carbon-free energy into the region. As per the official statement, it will help increase the overall energy supply and long-term electricity affordability across the place.
“Amazon Is Making A Long-Term CommitMENT To Louisiana Because Our State Delivers Support,” Says Louisiana Governor
David Zapolsky, Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer at Amazon, said that Amazon’s $12 billion investment in northwest Louisiana would build next-generation data center campuses to support AI and cloud computing, ensuring opportunities for local communities. He added that the company was creating hundreds of high-paying jobs and making substantial investments in local infrastructure to serve customers, and said that Amazon was grateful for its strong partnerships with local leaders and proud to deepen its commitment to Louisiana.
Jeff Landry, Governor of Louisiana, expressed strong support for Amazon’s initiative, noting its potential to transform the community. He said that Amazon was making a long-term commitment to Louisiana because the state provided prime sites, strong infrastructure, and a skilled, hard-working workforce ready to support the next generation of technological innovation. He added that investments of that magnitude placed Louisiana at the center of operations relied on across the United States and connected its communities to jobs that powered how Americans lived, worked, and did business.
Susan Bourgeois, the Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development (LED), reacted to Amazon’s latest initiative. She said that as global leaders like Amazon continued to choose Louisiana, it sent a powerful signal that the state was competing and winning at the highest level. She added that such investments were not isolated wins but helped activate local supply chains, create new opportunities for Louisiana vendors, and open doors for residents to access high-wage careers. She further said that with each project, the state’s foundation grew stronger, delivering lasting opportunities for businesses and families across Louisiana.
